ABOUT
Emmett Sher is a guitarist, composer, and educator based in Harlem, NY. He has performed at major concert venues all over the world, including Birdland, The Django, Monterrey Jazz Festival, Jazz at the Pines, Idyllwild Jazz Festival, The Mint LA, Lugar Da Capitao (Portugal), and De Peper (Amsterdam). Emmett comes from a family of serious artists and musicians. He was heavily exposed to the music of Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis and Wes Montgomery at a young age.
He graduated from Laguardia High School, then attended the Brubeck Institute Fellowship program, a gap year program which accepts one 5 piece jazz group. During his time at the Brubeck Insititute, he won a YoungArts Finalist award in Jazz Performance. In 2016, he began his undergraduate studies at Oberlin Conservatory on a full scholarship. While at Oberlin Emmett was a part of the prestigious Sonny Rollins Scholars Ensemble, and was awarded the Wendell and Bettye Logan Prize in Jazz Studies.
In 2019, Emmett traveled to Poland to compete in the Jarek Smietana International Jazz Guitar Competition where he took home second place. Emmett was among a field of roughly 40 candidates from around the world. Judges included Mike Stern and Peter Bernstein.
